And Sew it Began…
Welcome Fabric Friends! I’m Susie, the founder of Wattle Hill Fabrics. We are proudly an Australian owned family business, specializing in quality, ethically produced designer fabrics and sewing supplies.
After the birth of my son, I found I was totally uninspired by the retail clothing options available for boys. Where were all the colours? The cool designs? The fun prints for boys? I knew there had to be more than the unexciting, drab offering the mass-produced market was supplying.
So, I decided to take matters literally into my own hands, and I signed myself up for weekly sewing lessons. Over two years, my amazing sewing teacher (thanks Vanna!) taught me all her tricks of the trade as I honed my skills, and my love for sewing was unleashed! The ability to create my own pieces for my son, friends, and family, using fabrics and prints I loved was so rewarding – and so much fun too!
As my passion for sewing grew, so did my appreciation for quality fabrics, particularly organic Scandi knits. Not only for the superior look and feel they gave to the final product, but also how lovely they were to work with too. It was important for me personally to use organic, ecofriendly fabrics for my own sewing, so I looked for a local supplier of quality, ethically produced and sourced fabrics. I soon realised that was missing from the Australian market – and I was sure there were others like me, looking for the same thing.
Drawing on my extensive business background in wholesale and retail, coupled with my design and creative experience, I decided to go all in and start my own fabric business – and Wattle Hill Fabrics was born!
While my focus on providing awesome fabric options for boys sewing remains, our product range has diversified to include an extensive offering for children, teens, ladies, men, general sewing, seasonal sewing, accessories, patterns, and notions too. As it turns out, my love for Scandi design is also shared by our wonderful customers, and we all can’t get enough! Wattle Hill Fabrics is thrilled to be chosen by Paapii Designs to be their Australian Premium Stockist, offering our customers the largest range in Australia of their gorgeous products, and exclusive early access to their new releases. We also offer comprehensive ranges from our other favourite Premium European Fabric Designers – Tygdrommar and Elvelyckan Design.
From our humble beginnings, Wattle Hill Fabrics has proudly become one of Australia’s premium independent online fabric retailers. With our focus on carrying an extensive range of quality, ethically produced fabrics, and providing prompt, friendly and helpful service, Wattle Hill Fabrics has fulfilled my dream of creating a business which brings joy to its customers in every parcel.
